To celebrate our church's patron saint, Saint Francis, Rev. Joe and Deacon Aileen will offer a special prayer service to celebrate animal companions in the lives of our members and neighbors. On Sunday, October 12 at 1pm on the front lawn of the church all our neighbors near and far are welcome for this special annual service. The service begins with an introduction of your companion with an invitation to sharethe way your companion is a blessing to you and your family. We will continue with a collection of prayers for our living and deceased companions. If your companion died, please bring a picture and tell us about the life you shared. The service will conclude with individual pet blessings.
Spiritual Autobiography Class - Rev. Joe will offer a Tuesday morning class that will begin Tuesday, November 17 and run through Tuesday, february 3 from 10:30am to Noon. During the first few sessions we will read and reflect on several spiritual autobiographies to learn a variety of ways to tell our spiritual stories. Closer to the start of the class, there will be a reading list posted. Each week we will listen to one or two participants share their spiritual autobiographies. The group listens and is invited to respond with affirmations and prayers. Each week we will conclude our time together with Eucharist and Healing Prayers.
If you would like to attend the Spiritual Autobiography class send an email with your interest to email@example.com. Members of other congregations are welcome as are those who would like another glimpse of our shared life at Saint Francis in Fair Oaks.
Our Congregation's Discernment Prayer During the Parish Retreat
Take Lord, and receive, all that we are and all that we have and possess as a congregation. Saint Francis Church returns it all to you. Give us only your love and your grace that is all we need, your love and your grace. Then unencumbered and detached, we pray dear Lord, that your Spirit may guide us in the way you would have us be your disciples. Let us know the way we are to share in carrying your cross and participating in your mission of resurrection. If it be your will dear Lord, let us be your disciples who lead others through death into your promise of resurrection. Lead us out of our hidden life as a congregation and into public ministry through mission that leads ourselves and others to experience your resurrection. Amen.
